Profiles of creation

Are you curious what we are all about?

Here is our work plan.  Please join in.

In the beginning chaos reigned and when light came into being, Creation was pleased. And after so many days and years, all that there is on earth came into being and a sense of order began to reign in the world and Creation was pleased. Ever since meaningful existence meant the completion of creation!

Virtual Publications is a non-profit initiative and a collaborative effort based on call for submissions, sponsored by members, volunteers and donors around the world.

Profiles of creation are an initiative of Marc Eliany geared to facilitate access to creators and communication among them. The first project sponsored as early as 1992 by Marc Eliany resulted in the publication of a biographical dictionary in French in 2001.

Dictionnaire Biographique du Monde Juif Sépharade et Méditerranéen

Joseph Levy, Josué Elkouby, Marc Eliany Editions Elysée 2001(c)

Virtual Publications published a web French edition 2003 (c) www.virtualpublications.ca

This edition is open to updating and links to private websites.

Multi-lingual submissions are encouraged

Virtual Publications established a “Profiles of creation” website to provide a setting for cooperative creation and networking for Jews of Moroccan heritage. Expansion to other groups is not excluded and is likely to follow.

Calls for submissions will be issues from time to time on the basis of the experience accumulated and the resources available.

The proposed website will be based on open-ended submission from any interested party or parties based on self-regulation principles.

Virtual publication follows positive review/recommendation by two peers.

Each published member will commit to review submissions from time to time on a voluntary basis.

Profiles of creation will be developed on an incremental basis, one step at a time, with an aim for gradual improvement. We intend to start with modest profile abstracts, move to detailed profiles and then focus on publication of abstracts and links to publications as well as personal and organizational websites.

Here are our guidelines:

Virtual publication key words (categories)

Depending on availability of resources and time span, ‘Profiles of creation’ will be published on our website by ‘Last name.’  Other categories may follow, i.e., country, specialization, decade of creation, language of publication… We are open to ideas.

An open-ended call for submissions is posted on our website www.virtualpublications.ca

Targeted calls for submissions (i.e., this email to you) is based on available lists of known creators, i.e., on the basis of existing listings such as biographical dictionaries, who’s who, etc…

We urge targeted candidates and published members to forward our call to friends. We rely on a snowball methodology to make headways. Your recommendations, your judgment and your networks will contribute to the success of this collaborative effort.

Conferences to highlight specific areas of creation, i.e., history, poetry, photography etc… will be called for from time to time. Do you have an idea? Would you like to host one? We intend to host larger scale conferences in collaboration with universities, research institution, museums and so forth. Hosting offers or proposal may be submitted to Virtual publications. Contact us virtualpublications@hotmail.com

Workshops and seminars geared to assist targeted members to prepare their own websites will be conducted from time to time.

Are you interested? Contact us virtualpublications@hotmail.com

Small scale workshops and seminars (up to 30 participants) will be held at Auberge des Arts, a rural retreat in Montpellier, Quebec, Canada, about one hour drive from Ottawa, Canada or two hours drive from Montreal, Quebec, Canada (www.aubergedesarts.ca).

The purpose of small-scale workshops and seminars will be to develop personal websites of members or websites on specific topics. Members will be expected to bring along material in digital and hardcopy formats to set up personal websites for publication by Virtual Publications or for hosting elsewhere (we do not aim to monopolize your sites).

Biographies of ancestral creators are one of our interests. Did you write a biography? Would you like to undertake writing a brief or a detailed profile of a remarkable historical figure? Please send it to us. We will publish it on our web site. Calls for papers dedicated to biographies of historical and other public creators are likely to follow.

Directories

We intend to develop an extensive directory of relevant profiles, organizations, by name, country, specialization, language, including Web site links.
